One-act plays festival

.....the happy triumph of the occasion was Young Theatre’s production of "Aesop’s Falables" with music arranged by Tim Smith ... directed by Andrew Kitchen, these young players performed with the enthusiasm and fervour which has become their trademark .... the production, designed by the director, was admirable in its simplicity and youthful expertise, (and) it flowed with disciplined movement and ensemble.

Jacquie Russell was a lively Jack-in-the-Box compmere ... Lesley Simons as the legal Miss Crow, Gill Evans as Nurse Stork and Sheila Nicholl as Anna Ant were all first rate in character - as were Danusia Iwaszko and Janet Fiferman as the two sheep.... Paul Battacharjee and Jeffrey Cole was very humorous as the Tortoise and the Hare, with the former splendid in his breathless victory. Neil Macdonald was an agile, delightful Grass-Hopper .. whilst Kay Kore was the awesome American aviator. The miming of the aero-flight and the attendant effects were cunningly achieved.

Undoubtedly, the outstanding showing was by Danny Long as the converted Mr. Wolf. A young player who knows all the tricks, he has flair and complete rapport with his audience and a marvellous sense of timing.

The many costumes were fantastic in their detail and simplicity, high credit to this lively dedicated company of youngsters, as was the show itself.
